Event Recap: “WOMEN, un siglo de cambio” exhibit

In September 2020 Barcelona was still trying to recover from the peak of the pandemic we had endured the months prior. The pandemic not only highlighted the importance of community and conversation but also just how much we rely on art to help us express ourselves and explain our reality.

I wanted to host an event that would reflect this, and thus I set my sights on Reial Cercle Artistic, a cultural and arts center set in one of the most emblematic buildings in the Gothic Quarter.

The evening began with a visit to National Geographic’s “WOMEN, un siglo de cambio” exhibit curated by Spanish Photojournalist Marisa Flórez. The exhibit offers a global glimpse into the lives of women through the photographic archive of the National Geographic over the last 130 years.

It was continued by a private tour of the Art Gallery, Art studios, and even some of the member only spaces.

The evening concluded with a lively discussion on the representation of women in the 21st century, inspired by the exhibit over a glass of cava.

Thank you again to all of you who participated last night and a huge thank you to Reial Cercle Artistic for their cooperation.

THANK YOU!

The evening left me wondering... what is the responsibility of the artist to contextualize or explain their work? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below! 🌱

See you at the next event!
