Event Recap: Where are you a Local?

This was my first ‘test’ dinner I hosted while I was figuring out in what direction I would like to take this project.

Inspired by @taiye.entirely Ted Talk 'Don’t ask where I’m from, ask where I’m a local’ the theme of the discussion was ‘Where are you a local?’, in order to explore national and cultural identities.

I introduced my friends to each other as I had known them, and by using @taiye.entirely criteria of Rituals, Relationships and Restrictions I asked them to think about what factors shaped their identities today. Race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, religion and economic backgrounds were all a part of the lively discussion.

Thank you to my friends who participated and shared their stories. I strongly encourage everyone to listen to the Ted Talk and reflect on this topic with others. I look forward to hosting more events in which diverse ideas and perspectives can be shared in order to uplift more voices and collectively understand the world a little more.
